Also known as “the Burned Church”, this old, burnt-down ruin just outside Trunau‘s walls is the subject of numerous horror stories. When orc raiders burned the building down and killed the Iomedaean clerics within, the Church of Iomadae moved to a new chapel—wisely built inside the city’s walls. The ruined church became known as the Plague House following a tragedy 50 years ago, when Trunau was afflicted with an epidemic known as the Blue Plague. The town’s authorities hastily rebuilt the structure (leaving it partly unfinished) to quarantine the plague victims. Just a few days later, a mysterious fire consumed the building, killing everyone inside—patients and healers alike—leaving the infamous site once again in ruins. No-one has attempted to rebuild it since.
People have seen lights, and heard noises emanating from the windows, late at night—so most Trunauans avoid the Plague House, believing it to be haunted. Recently, while on patrol, the late Patrol Captain Rodrik Grath spotted a flood troll there, noting it in his journal. Rodrik was meaning to go investigate the Plague House the day after Ruby Red’s hopeknife ceremony, but unfortunately he met his end the night before in his quarters at the Ramblehouse.
